DERMAL FILLER TREATMETS
While dermal fillers are primarily used for cosmetic purposes, there are a few medical conditions where they have therapeutic applications:
Facial Lipoatrophy
This is the loss of facial fat, which can occur in people with HIV or other conditions. Fillers can restore volume to the face, reducing the appearance of hollow cheeks or deep facial folds.
Scar Treatment
In some cases, dermal fillers are used to treat depressed scars, including acne scars or surgical scars. Fillers can help elevate the scar tissue to make it more even with the surrounding skin.
Vocal Cord Paralysis
In cases of vocal cord paralysis, certain types of fillers can be injected to bulk up the vocal cords, improving speech and reducing voice hoarseness.
Hand Rejuvenation
Fillers are sometimes used in the hands to restore lost volume, especially in people with conditions that cause the hands to appear aged due to fat loss, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
In some cases, dermal fillers are used to correct minor nasal deformities or irregularities, such as after trauma or surgery, without the need for invasive procedures.
Lipodystrophy
Patients with lipodystrophy, a condition where fat distribution is abnormal, often due to HIV or certain medications, can benefit from dermal fillers to restore facial contours.
